Sr. Human Factors Manager
San Jose, CA
Job duties – Manage a team of human factors engineers and interns (including overseeing employee onboarding and training, promoting professional development and mentoring employees, promoting employee engagement and alignment between working goals and each person’s personal aspirations, and providing regular feedback to facilitate personal growth). Manage resource allocation for all projects. Specifically, analyze available resources, match the background and training of specific consultants with specific projects, and have technical discussions with team members to agree on project scope and delivery schedules, tracking schedules and related dependencies. Manage operations to key delivery metrics. Write performance reviews and solve internal issues. Overseeing hiring, training, and mentoring other engineers and supporting staff. As appropriate, review, approve, or modify project work. Drive quality improvement initiatives and engineering processes. Promote positive relationships and professional rapport with clients. Provide expert consultations for clients and staff, as needed, on applicable guidance’s, standards, regulations, and regulatory expectations related to Human Factors and Usability Engineering for medical products. Attend sales meetings and lead direct reports to prepare proposals. Support company promotion and presence as an industry thought leader. Author study protocols and reports. 15% international and domestic travel required. Will supervise Human Factors Engineer employees.
Education and Experience required – Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, or Biotechnology and 5 years of engineering experience in the medical device or a similarly regulated industry.
Background – 1) Knowledge of applicable standards (FDA Guidance, IEC 62366, and ANSI/AAMI HE75); 2) Resource allocating and tracking in the engineering services/consulting space; 3) Human Factors Engineering, including in a tangential field such as research and development, clinical testing, and user-experience design; 4) Working within a quality system; 5) Collecting and synthesizing large quantities of information across the broader team into usable communications (i.e., protocols, reports, or operating procedures); 6) Technical problem solving and technical presentation skills; and 7) Experience in medical device product design and regulatory processes.

Rate of pay – $166,962 to $175,000 per year
